Client Sales and Service Representative

Newsela is setting a new standard for what students and teachers can expect of their software: gorgeous, intuitive, personalized, captivating and addictive. And that’s where you come in. You’re an inside sales professional who knows how to sell an online software-as-a-service (SaaS) product. Newsela has tens of thousands of customers who have been using a free trial of the service. Your job is to convert them to "Pro" version, which has an annual fee. These will not be cold calls - prospects will be requesting appointments. Conversations will take place via telephone - outbound to prospect - and, via email exchange. While the primary focus is selling, the inside sales representative will also handle customer service inquiries.

We’re seeking an individual who wants to work in a new exciting company in one of the hottest start-up sectors. This is an opportunity to be one of the first 15 employees and is an environment where everyone is willing to "roll up their sleeves" and figure it out. If you want to sit in a cubicle with a hundred others and follow a script, this job is not for you. But if you are willing to spend time making sure your prospect understands the product before completing the sale, then check the qualifications below and do apply.

This is a NYC-based position so please do not apply unless you are prepared to work here. Recruiters not welcome.

Desired Skills and Experience

-Four-year degree from an accredited college or university.

-Minimum 12 months experience in inbound or outbound (but not cold calling) telesales. Experience as a cold caller does not count in the 12 month minimum. Clearly label these positions on your resume or you will not be considered.

-Minimum 6 months experience selling in an online industry (can overlap with above). Some examples are web-based subscriptions, SaaS products, online advertising.

-Experience as an primary or secondary school teacher is preferred, but not required.

-Social media expertise - candidate must be a "super user" of social media and understand its role in the sales process.

-Tech-savvy: candidate must understand technology to provide technical support to prospects and customers. Intelligent, articulate, motivated, innovative, creative, hard-working - provide examples in your cover letter of any or all of these traits in your cover letter. Sell us on you!
