EdWeek Research Center Learning Loss Research Survey

This national survey conducted by the EdWeek Research Center captures educator perspectives on learning loss, instructional disruption, and recovery priorities following pandemic-related disruptions.

The findings help district leaders understand how educators define learning loss, where they see the greatest instructional gaps, and which strategies they believe are most effective for recovery.

Key Findings

This survey found that:

  • A majority of educators reported moderate to significant learning loss across grade levels
  • Literacy and engagement were identified as top recovery priorities
  • Teachers emphasized the importance of high-quality instructional materials over remediation alone
  • Respondents cited student motivation and access as major barriers to recovery
