Chris Mezzatesta

Chief Revenue Officer

Chris Mezzatesta has a 25-year track record of explosive revenue growth in leadership positions at SaaS, startup, growth-stage and public companies. He brings a powerful combination of leadership, team building, motivational and mentoring skills, having built sales teams on six continents that have consistently been recognized by Gartner as leaders in their space.

Chris comes to Newsela from Tangoe (NASDAQ: TNGO), a mobility management SaaS company, where he led the company from $20 million to more than $225 million in annual recurring revenue as Senior Vice President of Global Sales, and later as Chief Revenue Officer. He led the sales assimilation of more than 14 acquisitions, a successful IPO in 2011 (ranked the sixth best IPO in the country in 2011 with 54 percent growth), and the global expansion of a sales team that closed more than 1,500 TEM engagements and penetrated over 80 percent of the Fortune 500 and a majority of the Global 2000 companies. At Tangoe, Chris recruited and managed sales and client success teams on six continents that included more than 200 people. He built the industry's dominant Direct Sales team and developed a global alliance and business development ecosystem with partners including IBM, SAP, HP, AT&T, CSC, Verizon, Rogers, Telstra, OBS, ATOS, HCL, Wipro, MTN, T-Mobile and Vodafone.

Earlier, Chris led sales at mobility management company TRAQ Wireless, where he grew annual recurring revenue from $1.8 million to $10 million in 18 months, leading to a merger with Tangoe.

Chris began his career at TSR Wireless, joining the company as a summer intern and working his way up the ranks to become the Senior Vice President of Sales. At TSR, Chris managed a sales force of 1,000 employees in direct, channel and retail sales, and grew the company to become the fourth-largest paging carrier in the United States. Chris also led sales at telecom expense management provider Teldata Control (which later became Control Point Solutions), where he grew revenues to $45 million.

Chris has an MBA in Strategic Management from the Lubin Business School at Pace University in New York, and a BA from the University of Maryland, College Park.

In addition to participating in a number of recreational sports, Chris has a passion for coaching children and teaching them about life through sports.
